As we get older, our skin starts to show it. You start to get fine lines and wrinkles on your face and neck, there can be sunspots, and the skin starts to sag and lose that healthy glow it once had. It can happen to all of us because it is a natural process.
But if you are like many people who live in the Bay Area, you will want to always look your best, and that means getting rid of those wrinkles, fine lines, sunspots and so on. Now, at Silicon Valley Aesthetic Dermatology we have a new piece of technology which can achieve this for you, and it is called the HALO laser treatment, or HALO procedure for the face. It is the world’s first Hybrid Fractional Laser and uses a combination of an ablative laser and a non-ablative laser together.
Now, that probably doesn’t make any sense to you unless you are in the skin restoration business. Skin rejuvenation is known by many names: laser resurfacing, laser surgery, laser peel, and more. But whatever you call it, all lasers use energy to penetrate various skin layers in order to repair wrinkles, sunspots, discoloration, and other signs of aging.
A Combination
The HALO procedure for the face combines both ablative and non-ablative lasers. These work in different ways. An ablative laser removes the top layer of skin which promotes the growth of new skin cells which are then young skin cells, and are smooth and improve both skin tone and texture. After the procedure, the patient will usually need a couple of weeks recovery time.
Non-ablative lasers work by heating up the underlying skin tissue without affecting the skin surface. The heat can be as much as 60°C to 70°C and this promotes the growth of collagen, the lack of which, as we grow older, is what is a major cause of skin problems.
So, the HALO procedure for the face tackles the issues from both sides at once. Not only that, but the procedure can result in less downtime than others, including that using an ablative laser alone. So, the HALO procedure provides you with the best of both worlds.
